On April 27th 2017, Neville Batt, Workshop Foreman at Think Ford Wokingham celebrated an amazing 60 years of service at the dealership located on Finchampstead Road.
Neville started out work as a Trainee mechanic at the Ford Garage when he was just 15, it was known as EF Cadby back then and was taken over in the 1960’s by Gowrings, who in the 1970’s then redeveloped the site. In 2002, Inchcape acquired the dealership, which saw over the next decade more changes introduced. In February 2013 Group 1 Automotive acquired the site and became Neville’s current employer.
As companies have changed and staff have come and gone, Neville has progressed from Trainee through to Technician moving into the position of Workshop Foreman at the age of 21 years – a position he has held ever since.
When it comes to Ford vehicles, there’s not many that Neville hasn’t got his hands on – starting out on a Ford Model T right through to the latest Ford Mustang, each one a pleasure to handle.
Neville said that it hasn’t all been plain sailing though, with the introduction of many different forms of technology in the workshop over the years there’s been a few challenges, ones that Neville has indeed risen to and combatted along the way!
Married to his amazing wife Alice for 54 years, Neville commented that the longevity is down to two things, his passion for work and football as he is never at home!
Not only is Neville a workaholic but he somehow finds time to run 3 Football teams on a Sunday, along with organising a team of referees of which he is a qualified one himself!
When asking Neville if he had any plans to retire, he said no, as long as he can keep going he will!
