The first all electric Audi.
Following on from our plug-in hybrid dynamic duo launched in 2014, the Q7 e-tron and the A3 Sportback e-tron, the Audi e-tron quattro will be the first model released that is fully-powered by electricity. This will then pave the way for more than 20 electric cars and plugin hybrids that will join the range by 2025, spread across all segments and concepts.
Making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the Audi e-tron quattro concept car displayed the very latest in Audi innnovation, which features including:
- Three electric motors that deliver 320kW, or 370kW when Boost mode is engaged.
- Solar panoramic glass roof with integrated photovoltaic cells that generate energy for the air conditioning and heated seats.
- Virtual mirrors for unprecedented aerodynamics. Small cameras replace exterior mirrors, relaying the car’s surroundings to OLED displays housed within the front doors, elimintaing blind spots and expanding the field of vision.
- Two intelligent OLED touch-screens intergrated into the dash which are complimented by voice-command controls for maximum ease.
- Rapid recharging with a range over 310 miles on a single charge of the 95 kWh Lithium-ion battery.

From virtual to reality.
The Audi e-tron quattro is due to arrive early in 2019, with ordering opening later this year.
Produced at the carbonneutral Audi manufacturing facility in Brussels, the premium SUV based on the etron quattro concept will offer space for five people and their luggage in accommodation that is similar to that of a typical Audi luxury class model. It will offer a driving range that is favourably comparable with a conventionally powered equivalent, and when this range is exhausted it will be 80% rechargeable in less than 30 minutes at fastcharging stations with up to 150kW capacity. With motive power to each axle it will also offer the allweather traction advantages of ‘equattro’ drive.
Allwheeldrive will be invaluable to the etron prototype in the coming months because 250 examples are set to cover more than three million miles on four continents as part of the car’s final testing programme. From the cold of Scandinavia and the heat of Africa through the mountainous regions of Asia and the merciless cambers of the Nurburgring to the stopandgo traffic of major Chinese cities and American highways – the purely electrically powered SUV will have its mettle tested in uncompromising practical tests under the most extreme of conditions from below 20 to above +50 degrees Celsius. In addition, intensive tests of the charging technology are being conducted worldwide – an important safeguarding criterion for batteryelectric models.
