The van looks capable from the first glance, with the high roof indicating the potential loadspace inside. By making the front bumper stronger and repositioning the headlights, Ford's design team has subtly given the Transit Connect an enthusiastic personality. A kerbside load door is one of the most useful functional additions, joining daytime running lights and rear fog lights across the van's flat panel body.
On the inside, flexibility is key to the van's enduring appeal. You can select the model with a short or long wheelbase, as a Double Cab, Chassis Cab or a Kombi with as many as seven seats. A dual passenger seat makes space for up to three on the front row, and you can fit up to two Europallets into the load area with the second bench folded down. Tie-down hooks and side mounting points keep cargo secure, with extra protection added by a full steel bulkhead between the back and the cab.
Ford has built the Transit Connect to work hard for you, and it comes with a choice of 1.0-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel engines which return outstanding performance as well as minimal running cost. You'll always have at least 74bhp and 170Nm of torque at your disposal. At its most efficient, the van uses Duratorq diesel and Ford ECOnetic technologies to cut CO2 emissions and fuel consumption – achieving figures of 105g/km and 70.6mpg combined respectively.
In common with the vast majority of secure and forward-thinking Ford car models, the Transit Connect van has earned Euro NCAP's five-star rating for safety. You'll be supported on your journeys by Electronic Stability Control with ABS, a driver's airbag, Trailer Sway Control, Hill Start Assist and emergency braking assistance.
