The new look of the Focus removes the triangular air intakes and adds larger fog lights, a strongly-creased bonnet and five-bar grille. The headlights have also been slimmed down to give them a more agile appearance, and new rear lights appear on the estate and five-door versions.
Equipment levels with the car should be familiar: Studio, Style, Zetec and Titanium are all expected. Evidence of Ford's attention to detail is everywhere, from the insulating window glass to the thicker footwell carpeting. The design of the multifunction steering wheel has been simplified, and it can be optionally chosen with comfy heating.
Ford SYNC 2 is coming to the next-generation Focus, bringing with it a new wave of connectivity and integrated features. The 'one-shot' navigation should be a big hit with drivers, as it simplifies searching for a destination. Say 'I'm hungry' to the voice control system, and it will automatically find local restaurants.
It's also all but confirmed that the new Focus will be yet another Ford to excel in Euro NCAP safety testing. The previous model won additional awards for security and passenger protection, and this year's version will bring back a full complement of airbags and driver assistance systems.
The Focus brings a 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol engine to the range in Europe for the first time. It's joined by a host of other petrol and diesel options, keeping the car one of Ford's most versatile.
Power across the engine range will span from around 84bhp to 178bhp, and five-speed and six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes will be offered. For the lowest emissions, a 1.0-litre EcoBoost option is set to produce just 99g/km of CO2.
