BMW 4 Series Engine Information
As you’d expect from BMW, the choice of engines gives impressive power and fantastic mpg. Most of the range features the signature rear-wheel-drive experience. The entry point model packs a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an impressive 0-62mph in just over seven seconds. This agile delivery is also catered for in the diesel engine; even at low speeds, you’ll feel the responsiveness.
Want even more power? The 4 Series also showcases a 3.0-litre model with four-wheel drive capabilities. Other recent models include the Gran Coupe, including the M440i xDrive, which seamlessly crosses the 0-62mph line in 4.7 seconds.

BMW 4 Series Practicality and Running Costs
This model has space for four people. However, as it’s a compact coupe, it is a similar size to the 3 Series. In addition, the coupe and convertible versions have a cosy two-door configuration. But if you want something a little roomier, opt for the Gran Coupe with four doors.
Each of the models has surprisingly good space in the boot. The coupe features 440 litres whilst the modern Gran Coupe averages around 470 litres plus, with the seats down, there’s ample for luggage or larger items.
Another bonus of the 4 Series is its great fuel economy. Most models will see around 40-50mpg, but the diesel might give you some more depending on driving conditions.

BMW 4 Series Interior, Technology and Safety
Inside the cabin, the 4 Series features high-quality interior styling and luxury accents. Recent models include BMW’s latest technology, such as infotainment touchscreen and digital displays. You also get Bluetooth connectivity and a great sound system as standard. Upgrading to the Sport and Gran Coupe versions takes the interior up a notch.
The safety systems in the 4 Series are very similar to the 3 Series and include aspects such as lane assistance, emergency braking, and parking assistance.

BMW 4 Series History
In 2013, the 3 Series Coupe transformed into the BMW 4 Series and developed a new generation of sporty, premium coupe designs. The first-generation cars provided a wider stance and wheelbase alongside its signature brand stylings, such as the kidney grille and round twin headlights.
In 2020, BMW took it up a notch and created the second-generation coupe with even wider and longer dimensions for increased road presence. Its lower centre of gravity compared to the 3 Series offers great road handling, and its aesthetic blends striking lines and accents for an exclusive feel. To complement the range, the Gran Coupe was introduced in 2021, providing extra space yet with the same standout features.

- Check modern vehicle infotainment systems to see the vehicle’s health status. This will provide information on brake pad condition, coolant levels etc.
- EGR Valve – important to ensure proper running
- Steering rack – check for knocking noises
- Rear boot button – check this works correctly
- Headlights – it's a legal requirement to have working headlights
- Windows – check seals and ensure the windows go up correctly to avoid water ingress
